Keep assets running and bill every job the day it’s done
An energy-services company is a Service Operation: plants, stations, and compression units under contract, crews sent to remote sites, and customers who approve every ticket before they pay. Ludia Consulting is a Microsoft solutions integrator focused on Service Operations, and our senior consultants connect those steps. Assets stay up, tickets match the contract, and your people run it and change it without us.

Demand is up; margin now comes from uptime and billing accuracy
Energy work is growing and customers are consolidating. The service firms that keep their margin do it with assets that stay up and tickets that get paid the first time.
The work is there. US LNG exports averaged 17.4 billion cubic feet a day in the first half of 2026, up 23% from a year earlier. Compression fleets run near full, so the next margin point comes from faster make-ready and better technician routing.
Costs are rising too. In the Dallas Fed’s second-quarter 2026 energy survey, about two-thirds of oilfield-service firms reported higher input costs, and none reported decreases. Customers are fewer and larger: US upstream deals reached $38 billion in the first quarter of 2026, according to Enverus.
At the edge, much of the work still runs on paper. Tickets are keyed by hand, parts are tracked on a whiteboard, and maintenance follows the calendar instead of the meter. Every ticket that doesn’t match the contract becomes a dispute, and the cash waits.
An energy-services firm earns its margin between the call-out and the paid ticket
Each team can hit its own numbers while a compressor sits idle waiting on a part. We connect the five links, so your customer deals with one provider.
- 1 · Customer service
Customer Service (opens Microsoft’s site)
Contact Center (opens Microsoft’s site)
Every call-out logged against the right asset and contract
Requests from operators, station customers, and plant teams become work orders with the site, the asset, the agreement, and the priority attached.
Agents at work: service coordinators hand case setup and intent to the Case Management and Customer Intent agents (generally available), and keep the customer relationship.
- 2 · Field service
Field Service (opens Microsoft’s site)
The certified crew at the right site, with the right equipment
Work is scheduled by skill, certification, location, and equipment. Preventive maintenance runs on meter readings and asset history.
Agents at work: dispatchers review schedules drafted by the Scheduling Operations Agent (preview, not for production use yet) and keep the final call.
- 3 · Mobility
Field Service (opens Microsoft’s site)
Power Apps (opens Microsoft’s site)
The asset’s history in the technician’s hand, even out of coverage
Technicians see the unit’s history and the procedure on a phone or tablet, work offline at remote sites, and close the ticket with photos and a signature before they leave.
Agents at work: technicians ask knowledge agents built in
Copilot Studio about the equipment and the procedure, and keep the repair and safety calls.
- 4 · Supply chain
Supply Chain Management (opens Microsoft’s site)
The part is at the yard before the unit goes down
Parts requisitions come straight from the work order, and stock at every yard and on every truck is visible. That means fewer emergency buys and fewer hot-shot deliveries.
Agents at work: buyers let the Procurement Agent (paid preview) chase late supplier orders, then decide what to expedite.
- 5 · Finance
Finance (opens Microsoft’s site)
Every ticket priced to the contract and invoiced the day the work is done
Labor, equipment, and parts land on one ticket, priced from each customer’s agreement, so the invoice matches and the cash comes in sooner.
Agents at work: controllers use the Finance Agent for reconciliation and collections follow-up, and still approve what goes to the customer.

The work, as your operators and crews do it
Four jobs your people do every day, and what changes when the record goes with them.
Operator
Operator rounds
Rounds run on a phone, offline if needed. Readings and photos land on the asset, and an out-of-range reading opens a work order with the unit’s history.
Their call: whether the unit keeps running.
Maintenance technician
Lockout/tagout before the wrench
The isolation points and LOTO steps ride on the work order. The job can’t start until each lock is confirmed and signed.
Their call: every lock. No system clears an isolation.
Inspector
Inspections that turn into work
Compressor, vessel, and site inspections on checklists with photos and location. A failed item becomes a corrective work order, and an expired certification blocks dispatch.
Their call: pass, fail, or shut it down.
Field supervisor
A ticket the customer approves on site
Copilot drafts a plain-language summary of the work order, priced from the operator’s rate sheet, so the company man can approve it before the crew leaves.
Their call: what goes on the ticket.
What changes for your CEO, CFO, and COO
For the CEO or owner
Take on the next site, fleet, or acquisition without starting over
Add a region, a station network, a new service line, or an acquired company on the same way of working. Your people make the change, on your timeline.
For the CFO
Tickets that match the contract, and cash that comes in sooner
Labor, equipment, and parts post to the ticket, so revenue and cost show by crew, by asset, and by customer. And you know what the work costs and returns before you sign.
For the COO or VP of operations
More uptime from the fleet and more productive hours from every crew
Maintenance runs on meter readings and repair history. The certified crew reaches the job once, with the part, and your customer sees status without calling you.
Ludia’s senior team knows energy services from first meeting to results
Four things decide results for an energy-services company with remote sites, rotating crews, and asset-heavy contracts.
The right people
Consultants who know a field ticket from both sides
Senior, US-based consultants who have sat with dispatchers, yard managers, and controllers. The person who plans your work stays to deliver it.
The right knowledge
They know how an energy-services contract makes money
Master service agreements, rate sheets, rental and lease billing, asset-centric maintenance, and multi-entity finance, plus deep Dynamics 365 know-how and a standing feedback loop with its product teams since 2018.
The right tools
Proven methods, one yard or business line at a time
Microsoft’s Success by Design practices and a pilot with one yard, region, or business line, so it proves itself before the rest follow. Automation and AI only where they earn their place.
The right outcome
An operations team that runs it themselves
We measure success by your satisfaction and by how well your team runs things after we step back.
Where energy-services companies see results first
Field tickets that match the contract
Price each ticket from the customer’s agreement at the point of work, with the approval attached, so it’s paid the first time. Billing stops lagging the field.
Field Service →Maintenance that follows the meter
Tie every work order to the compressor, station, or plant asset, with its hours and repair history, so preventive work happens before the failure.
Field Service →Parts counted at the yard and on every truck
Connect the work order to parts requisitions and yard inventory, so the part used is the part billed and every yard knows its stock.
Self-service for fleet and station customers
Give customers a portal for their tickets, approvals, and account data, built on Power Pages over the same Dynamics 365 records your team uses.
A back office that keeps pace with growth
New sites, entities, and mobile crews expose gaps fast. We stabilize what you run today, then cut over one wave at a time, with hypercare after each.
The connected Service Operation →A plan before Dynamics GP support ends
Microsoft stopped selling new Dynamics GP subscriptions on April 1, 2026, and support ends Dec 31, 2029. Plan the move on your own calendar.
Agility and enablement
Your people add the next site or entity without calling us.
Energy work changes with the market: a new basin, a new service line, an acquired company on its own books. Your admins and operations managers should be able to set those up themselves.
Your admins train alongside our consultants from the first sprint. Every design decision is written down with the reason behind it. Operations managers get a runbook for adding a yard, a customer agreement, or a legal entity.
How we work →
Expert review · The right tools
Your senior experts make the call, with the evidence already assembled.
Plant health reports and compliance reviews depend on a few senior experts. Much of their time goes to requesting documents and comparing them against the standard.
A national power-generation services operator used Helios 2 with Ludia to map where AI can help across two business lines: 54 opportunities, 33 of them in the first wave. By design, every score and finding links back to source evidence and an expert’s approval, and the judgment on plant health stays with the expert.

Energy and power · Service + Supply chain
About two years, one program across the field, the parts room, and the portal
An alternative-fuels provider expands step by step while its field crews keep working
The provider’s customers use a portal rebuilt on Power Pages. Its crews’ work orders connect to parts requisitions and inventory, and mobile tools grew with its expansion across several entities.

Energy and power · Finance + Service
Finance, supply chain, sales, and field service in one program
A Western Canadian energy-services company runs its business on one set of numbers
The company supports compression and process equipment. It put Finance, Supply Chain Management, Sales, and Field Service with mobile in place as one program, planned and delivered with Ludia.
Counts from Ludia’s client records, Sept 2026: five energy clients, across power-generation services, fueling infrastructure, alternative fuels, compression and process-equipment services, and energy research.

For your IT team: what Microsoft has ready for energy services, and what it won’t do
Some of what Microsoft ships for asset-heavy field work is ready for production, some is still in preview, and some belongs in other systems. Our architects tell you which is which before you plan around it.
Field Service is ready for remote field work today
Generally available. Work orders, customer assets, agreements that generate recurring maintenance, the schedule board, and the offline mobile app.
Service now connects to finance natively
Generally available, Sept 2026. Connected workflows run from work order to invoice across Field Service, Project Operations, and Finance.
Getting tickets into your customers’ e-invoicing networks takes design
Operator e-invoicing formats are set by the customer, and sending tickets to them takes integration work. We plan it per customer.
Scheduling help is in preview, and small today
Preview. The Scheduling Operations Agent proposes schedules for up to 30 resources per optimization plan and isn’t for production use yet. Large crews still run on the schedule board and the rules we design.
Some work stays in other systems
Dynamics 365 doesn’t replace SCADA, a historian, or pipeline-integrity software; it takes their alerts and turns them into work orders. Nor does it do your customers’ production or joint-interest accounting.
Agents: some ready, some in preview
Finance reconciliation in Microsoft 365 Copilot and the Contact Center agents are generally available. The Procurement Agent is in paid preview. Agents you build in Copilot Studio are available now.
Status as of Sept 28, 2026, from Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 announcements (Sept 23, 2026), the Field Service 2026 release wave 1 plan, Microsoft’s Dynamics GP lifecycle, and the AI at Work roadmap. Microsoft now ships changes continuously, so we re-check status before every plan.
Questions energy-services leaders ask us
Can our technicians work offline at a remote site?
Yes. The Dynamics 365 Field Service mobile app works offline, so a technician can open the work order, see the asset’s history, and capture time, parts, photos, and a signature without coverage. It syncs when the device reconnects. We decide with you which data each role carries offline, because that choice sets how fast the app runs in the field.
Can we keep different rates for each customer and still bill accurately?
Yes. Each customer’s agreement and rates can price the ticket and the invoice. We start with the rates themselves, because a ticket priced from an outdated rate sheet gets rejected no matter how fast it’s sent.
Does Dynamics 365 replace our SCADA, our historian, or our customers’ accounting?
No. Dynamics 365 isn’t a SCADA, historian, or pipeline-integrity system, and it doesn’t do production or joint-interest accounting. We connect to those systems: their alerts become work orders, and your tickets flow to your customers’ invoicing.
We run Dynamics GP. How much time do we have?
Support ends Dec 31, 2029, and Microsoft stopped selling new Dynamics GP subscriptions on April 1, 2026. We’ll tell you whether Business Central or Finance and Supply Chain Management fits, and plan the move on your calendar.
Will our own people be able to run it after go-live?
Yes. Your admins build alongside our consultants, and each architecture decision is documented with its reason. By go-live, your team can add a yard, a customer agreement, or an entity without us, and managed support is there if you want it.
